i especially love their Rent-By-Mail service. i'm living in the Seattle of California—the Bay Area. this is not the same as living in actual Seattle. so while i'd kill to physically go down to Scarecrow and get a whiff of what a video rental store smells like for the first time in like 20 years, i'm fine with treating myself to rare DVDs being shipped to me as my recovery process drags on and on
it's like... fucking incredible that in the Year of Our Luigi 2024, i can get the full Netflix-of-2009 experience of DVDs through snail mail, but! with a much cooler video collection and much cooler people running a much cooler operation. my latest haul includes a Blockbuster kiosk disc from 2007, a Bill Plympton short film collection, a documentary about video game sound design, and something called Video Pizza
if you like cool discs, consider setting up a rent-by-mail account >>>HERE<<<
or if you're in Seattle, you could just go down there and tell me what it smells like and if it smells better or worse than a Hollywood Video circa 2004 please i'm dying to know what this place smells like you don't understand. i think about video rental store smell a lot for reasons i can't explain
old carpet. plastic. phosphor. idk why the Hollywood near my house where i grew up smelled like fake butter-- the Authentic Movie Experience-- but otherwise it's pretty one to one
incidentally, Scarecrow needs your help staying open right now! there's never been a better time to rent a bunch of weird shit and support a very rare, very cool thing. https://scarecrowvideo.org/
