i dreamed that @shel wrote a chost about how the library offers expensive ingredients (like a spice) to patrons in small quantities, or like you check out an ingredient bottle from the library like you would a board game or an instrument, use a little and bring it back. what i remembered distinctly upon waking was that this had resulted in the same bottle of horseradish being kept by the library and lended out, mostly for passover, since the 80s.
