hello, i'm an artist and game developer. this is a journal for now, not sure what it will become.


continuing this... i finished my josuke! he is in my game!

my goal with this was to improve my character creation workflow. some take aways:

  • 3d work takes so long. i've known this, but i found that putting my sessions on a timer and forcing a break every 30m max, as well as saying "fuck it good enough" to myself like a mantra really helped.
  • i always use a checklist when working through the steps of programming but it never occurred to me to do that for 3d art. but it's really helpful cause there are a lot of steps.
  • re-learned for the 100th time that blender does not save your images when you hit save. one of the most baffling things. this turned out to be a blessing in disguise though because i lost the face and hair, but i like the new version much better.
  • i don't know how cloth folds work at all. i am lucky this is a nearly black shade of purple because you can't tell how stupid my texturing is. i don't really care to learn, studying cloth is boring
  • araki was heavily influenced by this incredible fashion illustrator, Antonio Lopez. surprise, he was gay

anyway i'm glad this is done. on to the next
