I've owned the game for quite a long time, but more OSR high lethal, etc isn't always the type of game I push for buut we had a day without a couple of players so I recommended a couple of other games and they went for EBL.

We immediately loved the stat/character creation. Getting some really fun classes, items, etc right out of the gate. It was one of the main reasons I snagged the game way back and it did nooot disappoint.

I've read most of the book but it was forever ago, so us jumping in had sooome stumbling buut I think it was mostly ok on my side. It does feel like it expects a little more prep from the GM side to prepare situations buut we kinda did it freeform (not required, but ya know more unique encounter tables etc). Half the map is drawn by the players too, and most of the stuff within came from spark tables within the book. Like getting 'beast funeral' after a player took out a beast folk man in order to get away from a pack of attacking dogs was quite funny. They of course quickly ruined the funeral.

Both players really loved the high lethality of it, most fights they attempted quickly crumpled one of the players and the other had to barely scrape by, or flee with the body of the other attempting to get them to a place to heal. Every rest I'd roll to see how the rival was doing, which ended up in a perfect moment of the rival just barely ahead of the two. He was just about to get out with the treasure when one player took a rather drastic action in order to take him down, in the process also taking himself out.

It was a ton of fun, and for sure a game I'll go back to as a quick and fun hard-hitting kinda game.
