Wordpress is a great place to host your own content. However. It is not a "discovery engine" like AO3, Wattpad, or Tumblr is. You can definitely "follow" a blog using RSS feeds. Or if the writer has an email newsletter they can be like "hey! I got a new story! go check it out!" Or you can rely on people finding it via google....which isn't gonna happen. SEO is a fiscal black hole.
This is all just a very roundabout way of saying: yeah, I'd read someone's fiction on WordPress. The only issue is how am I gonna discover a) it's there and 2) it's a story I'd be interested in reading in the first place.
But if it is a thing you'd be interested in doing, lmk. I have a couple stories hosted on my site and know a thing or two about wordpress.
Thank you for the in-depth answer! I suspected this was the case which doesn't sound like a good effort to gains ratio if i'm honest (but I would like to start a newsletter for funsies)
Also... When you say "Wattpad is a discovery engine" lol cos I didn't really have much luck when I tried to use it myself!
Well, it has categories! And things you can search! It's more than nothing! I haven ever had good luck on Wattpad either lol but that might be because I'm not writing One Direction rpf
Well that's a start! I don't think it had categories in earnest when I was using it! haha I'll dump my stories on there and see what happens
