I'd like to just gas on here in a series of posts about brain storming how traditional Fantasy Races are gonna work in Beastiary Beas, it's easy to go "I don't like them really!" But maybe that's just cos they've been in the hands of The Worst People for so long that maybe I can brainstorm my way into liking these things. So please read on if you're interested in my thought process about this.
- 'Creatures' as a designation some Monsters (such as the above) have given themselves to differentiate themselves from the general Monster.
- What is the actual difference between Creatures and Monsters? NOTHING Absolutely nothing, it is a designation These Monsters have made up which Doesn't actually mean anything and this designation exists for no reasons that are good
- While Creatures places themselves above Monsters, they intentionally do not consider Celestials/Angels under this designation so that they can place themselves under them.
- Half-XXX are not named for a few reasons: First, my Orc lore is messed up lol what you think of when you hear 'Orc'? No that's Orges (try to act shocked: This is cos that's what Megaten calls this design too) and meanwhile Orcs? Big Piggies. Just a lot of Japanese media does this, I theroize because The Design You Think Off is too close to Oni. So already this is a little confused. Everything else is story related so: Shhhh!
- This also means Halflings, being Called That might get confusing! So they'll need a new name, ideas in the comments are encouraged or I'll call them Fizzler Combelpots or something.
- CLOWNS! Yes!!!
- The Fae were inspired by the Pikmin 4 demo, the little hummingbird noses the PC can have is very sweet. As a Big Shnoz Haver: It's nice, but rare to see a big/long nose design like that not designed to be exclusively anti-semantic lol so I'm taking it.
- SPEAKING OF! Is it controversial to put Vampires alongside these other guys? My reasoning is and I'm trying to word this delicately: They are problematic in the same genre of ways I feel all other Fantasy races listed above are IMO. So it feels like if I'm dissecting these aspects of the Fantasy Races then... Might as well right?
- I'm still on the fence if there are other Monsters not listed here that consider themselves Creatures, one I'm attached to are: Monkeys as they appear in Journey to the West meaning dezins of an immortal martial kingdom. But maybe they're too Furry? But maybe that contradiction is a fun wrinkle to explore? I dduunnoooo
So that's just my initial general ideas for this lore! i'll probs do some more Big Posts brainstorming how to make each individual kind of creature fun and interesting!
