It's even funnier because they're on blast from basically everybody - the comments on the Japanese tweet are mostly along the lines of "let them be married!" And "how else are we expected to interpret them having wedding bands and going on honeymoon together?" With a bit of "stop making decisions to appease people who don't exist!" For good measure.
Like, for how eager a certain subset of anime fans online are to claim that the Japanese really don't care about queer issues or queer representation in fiction, it's really encouraging to see so many Japanese fans of this show banding together to say that they care and they won't have homophobia ruin a thing they enjoyed.
