Dear fucking god lmao
This time around has really cemented, I think Carrion has entered the "Playing It Annually" echelons, alongside Super Metroid. I've never played anything where it just feels This Good to move around and traverse a map in a 2-D space. It's interesting that it took like such a subversive concept as this to really hit what is the peak of Metroidvania movement. Of course, Movement isn't the only thing that makes this genre engaging and Carrion does have to sacrifice those things in order to be what it is, I'm not suggesting we have to do away with Gravity moving forward with this genre or anything lol but y'know I'm hoping this is a formative moment for a genre that does pride itself on the Good Feel of it's movement. What other god forsaken things may we pilot for another game with movement that feels as good as it does here? Carrion as a protagonists is such a violent throw away of your Samus Aran that you can't help but wonder how much better things can feel, the further away we move from respecting the rules that Super Metroid establishes? Or just thinking about even Symphony what if we just got a very unbalanced and overpowered vampire protagonist, like how good can the movement possibly get if we just didn't give a shit about how easy a game like this can be, because we can quickly get to a point of everything being trivial? I just hope Carrion sets us up on a good path that asks these kinds of questions, cos when it comes to Metroidvanias, obeying the formula and difficulty, games afflicted by the rot of Soulsborne has that aspect covered, Silksong will eventually come out. So here's to hoping the other side of the coin gets a little Funky about it.
