i've always loved the AGE mobile suits. i'm not a fan of AGE the show, but the mobile suits are great. so when i saw that the ghirarga, one of my favorite Spiny Devil Guys, had a beautiful blue reskin/redesign from build divers, how could i say no?
this guy gets the perhaps dubious honor of being patient zero of my new spraypainting setup in my new apartment. all those gold parts used to be a kind of sickly pale yellow that i hated on principle (my war on yellow plastic never ends!!) and so i took my tamiya primer and paint and tried not to gas myself to death. and i didn't die! so that's good. but the paintjob ended up really bubbly in a lot of places because i didn't have the right fan. so that's less good. luckily it's all metallic paint on little accent pieces so it doesn't really show up too badly, especially from far away, but i'm definitely gonna need to rethink my setup if i want to paint with flat colors and/or paint bigger pieces. i have a more appropriate fan now, so we'll see how that goes with my next paint project!
as for the build: it was mostly fine, exactly and predictably on the level of the HG danazine, pretty simple but pretty sturdy, lot of polycaps but that's not the worst thing in the world, yadda yadda. no major issues...
...except for the part where i had to build the tail.
i actually superglued the tailtip onto the wire because it kept falling off while i was putting the other segments on and it was annoying me. god bless the RG epyon for coming up with any other way to do these kinds of tails. truly the time before its rise was a dark and frightening era.
