The cohost announcement of the final days about the shutdown of the website was a big bummer for me and other people who visit the website.
No other website feels like cohost.
Anything I type here you probably seen already about the sentiment that we will miss cohost. A place that hides numbers on post and allow people to share works without a nasty algorithm.
Cohost had features such as open Q&A ask me anything also find tags to find niche communities. Video games are fun and I play a lot of fighting games with friends. Trying to find other people who also played the old obscure or modern indies games was fun. I was here in the middle of cohost life and probably missed out over the years of development.
I was on cohost on my free time checking out the feed for any cool stuff to drop almost everyday. Personally I try to balance work, my health and side work as a digital artist (sfw/nsfw). I was happy to visit cohost.
Other places suck.
Not the most active person here and tried to share my own work here as an archive and connect to people who might vibe with my work. I was an outside observer to cohost events and had no insight to the entire life of the website. Wanted to see updates from my favorite artist to learn, listen or read about cool stuff.
I wanted to share more about my own favorite things like music currently listening (jpegmafia) or video games that made and impact to me (13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim)
Cohost is a place that set itself to be different in a positive way the web should be and not care about numbers on post to attract attention or clickbait to dangerous dark patterns.
This website had problems but not the worse we have seen and the staff faced it with open communication about the problems and solutions. Open about the financial impact about direct support and the artist alley (SUPER COOL IDEA)
The biggest thanks to @aurahack who was the first person that led me to cohost and I was able to find other cool people who shared their thoughts about the things they care. People who were open about real issues and thoughtful progress in their respective lives. Learning about new indie games, deep critic on video games plus more. Eggbug. CSS Crimes. Gundam. Localization in video games, cohost was able to let people be open.
I will continue to visit cohost until it shuts down.
