tonight’s unmeasured take: video websites wouldn’t need to spend so much on bandwidth if we just stopped letting users upload videos larger than 720p
i think when we think about social web services, we forget that every new post and upload adds yet more data onto the mountain of data, and no matter how fast we can make price-per-byte more efficient that efficiency will be destroyed by both our past (historical uploads) and the future (demand for higher resolution)
