even if krita isn't your software of choice for art (mine isn't), it has some unique things that other editors don't
I can't emphasize enough the unholy amounts of layer blending modes this thing has. you can do some interesting color adjustments with it
the binary modes are especially fun because they allow you to create pretty simple geometrical backgrounds in a pinch. just make two layers with the same linear gradient under a different angle and put the one on top in one of blending modes under binary category (AND, NOT, OR, XNOR, CONVERSE, etc). they're neat looking as a result!
