The AI-generated answers from Google are bad regardless, but it's difficult to explain to tech-challenged people what a neural network is so they can understand why the first result they got from asking a question is untrustworthy, and how exactly THAT first result differs from when Google just showcases an excerpt from an actual website. It's hard to not assume corporate malice in Gemini's implementation when Google's UI is otherwise generally mindful of tech-challenged users. (The actual search results Google provides are a different story, but I digress.) I'm assuming the company is trying to pass Gemini off as a benign extension the search engine, solely to artificially inflate its usage and justify the product's existence to investors.
