we think we might benefit from making it so that we have more opportunities for each of us to exist in separate corners of our life. I'm noticing that I, kagerou, have been managing this account for awhile because of the avatar not being switched in awhile, but Marisa has been around in discord, and our discord front tends to extend to real-life.

we've been frustrated with that coupling for awhile because it makes it hard to do switches quickly when we associate fronters with something external, and that external cue winds up reinforcing the front, thus allowing external factors to make it harder to switch more fluidly like for example the hassle of profile pic swaps. at this point, it can be substantially difficult for us to decouple the current self from external factors, since we've been using pluralkit and discord pfps in conjunction for years.

so we might make more external factors to work with— at one point we had a bracelet that had one of our non-touhou headmates' names on it and we planned to make more, but didn't get that far. main problem with this approach is that there's, like, 30 people at a low-ball estimate, and the setup problem still exists for newer identities we want to play with. but an anchor really is useful and we find it difficult to go without.

if we could just have a way of setting up an anchor for ourselves that both feels strong and resonant (like profile pics) and requires minimal setup, that would be really nice. I suspect it always has to be a tradeoff, which... is what it is. (eg, if we wanted really strong anchors we could get/make cosplay gear and go with that in public, but that accordingly takes substantial effort.)
