the crux of this idea is just. it's free for all dodgeball, with a gym class amount of players and a gym level of space; when you get hit while unfrozen you freeze. when you get hit while frozen you unfreeze. you also freeze if a ball thrown by you is caught before hitting the ground (or another player?). this only works because of the chaos inherent in having that many people in that amount of space having access to projectiles. you will, inevitably, hit people on accident

it occurs to me this also leads to an emergent strategy of using frozen players as cover which is kinda interesting and would lead to more unfreezing happening.

there could also be a variation where frozen players must stand in place but are allowed to catch balls to transfer their frozen state to another player, I think. maybe that'd be the only way to get unfrozen; that'd make the strategy of using frozen players as cover much more harrowing for all unfrozen parties. could also have "if you hit a frozen players their frozenness is transferred to you" if you want the level of frozen players to be strictly nondecreasing, which would make the game actually end literally ever. and on top of that you might only supply a purposely limited number of dodgeballs to make them more valuable. and ig one more variation would be "frozen players, if they get a ball, are allowed to throw it and get unfrozen if they hit an unfrozen player".

my brain likes variants on simple games and generates them ad infinitum.
