i rly do think it is like, either a unfortunate ammount of, self-hyping/wishful thinking on the part of ppl in government orgs and news agencies (the latter in particular being incentivised to make reality seem spectactular because it makes them money)
or, less likely, some weird deliberate attempt to either distract people, or further erode public trust in the news, or both
yeah like. I'm so fucking confused. This is NOT how we confirm the existence of aliens in any world, frankly
i feel like the other factor here is everyone in congress and the millitary is extremely dumb and gullible when it reinforces certain narratives they find "exciting" or otherwise self-confirming and so easily buys into stuff like alien spacecraft government coverup based on very little evidence and hearsay from some rando exciteable military chud with a head full of conspiracy theories
also this at the same time as the superconductor thing that's probably fake but it's easily reproducible so I guess we'll know soon enough but it has some big red flags so like
