Alright, time to talk more about Untitled Open World RPG Magical Girl Game Idea I Had or UOWRPGMGGIIH. That's a joke I'm not calling it that but I don't have an actual name yet either. Anyways, here's the previous post for context.
Today I'm gonna talk about Classes! Yahoo! So, like I mentioned, there's four classes Warrior, Witch, Idol, and Dark. Each class has a unique skill tree that unlocks more combat and traversal options as you progress and level up. The skill trees are fairly streamlined so they're not full of a whole mess of choices and all the skills and abilities are actually useful so you don't have to waste a skill point on a +5 to HP before getting to the good stuff. The ultimate end goal with this is that by the end game you feel like an absolute powerhouse while also not being so overpowered that there's no longer any difficulty.
Warrior
The Warrior Class is, as you might expect, the heavy hitter of the game. It primarily focuses on melee combat, using weapons made of sparkly, magic energy to deal massive damage to enemies. It's also by far the sturdiest class with the highest defense and HP. In my mind, most attacks use a spear but there's also swords. The main drawbacks of this class are limited options for ranged attacks (there's a bow but its less powerful and reliable compared to melee weapons) and traversal.
Witch
The Witch Class is, obviously, a spellcaster. The squishiest class, the witch is best suited for staying back from the action and bombarding the opponent with spells ranging from blasts of sparkly energy to raining meteors down on the battlefield. It also has a rather nifty traversal option in the form of the broom, which hovers above the ground and allows you to cover long distances quickly. The Witch's weakness, of course, is having low defense and not many melee options, with the ones that are there being intended as "get off me" tools in case you end up in a tight spot rather than viable options for taking down foes.
Idol
The Idol Class is largely focused around buffs and debuffs. It applies debuffs to enemies and buffs itself and allies. It also has some very good AOE options. All of its buffs, debuffs, and attacks are executed by singing and dancing.
Dark
The Dark Class represents the rival magical girl character who works for the bad guys and usually has a heel-face turn before dying. Oh yeah, did I mention this game leans hard into tropes and is very tongue-in-cheek? Not in a cynical, mocking way, it wears its heart on its sleeve. Anyways, the Dark Class is essentially a beast master, summoning monsters (which fit the anime aesthetic of the Player Character much more than the enemies you fight, which are more realistic to fit the realistic open world rpg aesthetic the world has going on) to fight enemies for you. It has its own attacks, of course, with decent melee and ranged options but it shines most when utilizing its minions, of which there are different kinds for different situations. It can also summon a big wolf to ride on (or maybe, like, a big dragon, I'm undecided). It also gets a neat counter where it dissolves into shadow to avoid an attack.
And that's all for this post. Neato, right? This is all kinda stream of consciousness, of course, and hardly finalized but I like what I've come up with so far. So, yeah.
