ok further idea: random human shows up at the ball by mistake.
by the end they realize they aren't human after all.
Over the night, one by one, the guests reveal their true forms, a colorful riot of scales and wings...
Until it's just our newcomer left, who has felt an odd kinship with the other guests all night.
The others look at them expectantly, but gently. Not demanding, not suspicious. A welcoming flock, where they can finally belong.
And tears running down their face, they feel their wings unfurl for the first time, as their form grows and shifts to something truer to them. As they find their true shape for the first time, surrounded by their long-lost kin...
I think this concept really gets me because it takes the duality of being a shapeshifting dragon and the concept of revealing your true self and turns it into something celebratory. I love the idea of dragons who are often normally hidden in society coming together to revel in their natures and let their true selves shine amongst fellows. And that's such a wonderful vibe and mood for a young unlit flame to discover their nature and finally feel like they belong, roaring under the moonlight
