i think monolith had the right idea with shadow of war / shadow of mordor stuff, sidestories in the leadup to LOTR

there're much more interesting parts to explore, mostly pre- and post-LoTR stuff (Numenor, the stuff Shadow of Mordor was looking at, perhaps the post-Sauron's-defeat reordering of Mordor and its surroundings, etc...)
