I've seen several people on here say they prefer Cohost's CW/hide system to Mastodon's. Can someone explain to me what's different about the two? Maybe I just haven't interacted with all the different mute features but some of the comments I've seen sound identical to how they work on Mastodon so I want to know what I'm missing.

(Just fyi this question is about the actual UI/UX, this is not a call to debate how you think mastodon users use these features or what different people choose to CW or not CW, I'm just curious what's different about them functionally speaking because I feel like I have to be missing something here)

Edit: also just because I'm the sort of person who tends to want to Over Clarify Themselves I definitely don't find Mastodons tagging or content warning systems flawless, it's just that from what I can tell Mastodon and Cohost have largely the same systems, and I'm having a hard time identifying what's different about them that could make people feel strongly about one being better than the other.

in reply to @lori's post:

I don't know if this is just Tusky or if it's built into Mastodon in a browser but I can set CWs/hides to auto expand there.

Tell me what you mean by a better tagging system? I hate Cohost's tagging system (I have posted a lot in the past about how the autofill needs a lot of work and if you choose to not use the autofill capitalization, it changes it to that anyway and you don't see it until after you post). Aside from the weirdness around the caps and the "canonical" autofill suggestions, I don't really see much difference besides that you can have spaces. What's better about it that I'm missing?

I may not be fully aware of the nuances of muffling or silencing or filtering here, is tag muffling just filtering out posts with that tag? Because that's already doable on mastodon, as well as individual words and you have options for where you want those filters to take place, like only filtering a word out of your mentions instead of your whole timeline. But maybe there's something different about it on cohost I don't get.

I hope this doesn't come off as argumentative it's more that without details about how it works, it looks to be about the same to me, so I feel like I'm missing a difference.

i honestly don't know much about masto since my time there was really short, but by “better tagging system” i meant that tags are not part of the post's body, like twitter (and i assume masto is like this as well). tag muffling is putting certain posts with that tag behind a click through, i believe; i've seen some people complain that muffling doesn't make the posts disappear from their feeds. silencing cws is the one that makes them disappear

i dunno if there's much difference in functionality, other than cws and tags being used in different contexts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but i probably am the wrong person to elucidate your questions. and btw i too hate how we have auto capitalization on tags here, so stupid
