honestly all of the "here's my great idea for how to monetize cohost!" posts are patronizing as fuck and someone needs to say it

even as someone who generally DOESN'T give the staff of this site that much credit i guarantee they have already discussed literally every idea y'all have thrown at them

they already know they could run ads, they already know they could do fundraisers, they already know what their options are. this shit is like someone being diagnosed with an illness and everyone around them who has never had the illness telling them all of their great remedies they heard about on facebook. this is like when someone who has been blind their whole life tells you what they need for accessibility and people who didn't even know screen readers existed until two seconds ago start giving them advice on how to live life as a blind person.

i think the most sympathetic i've ever been to the staff is imagining them right now looking through these comments where people keep going "you could always do this!" "what about that?" as if the people who have been running a money-losing website for this long hadn't once ever thought about running ads. some of the suggestions are things they even ADDRESS IN THE POST.

i can't believe i of all people am saying this but like please give them some credit and stop doing this i cannot imagine how much your attempts to be helpful are just kicking them while they're down. at least if you're gonna kick them while they're down do it on purpose.

in reply to @lori's post:

i think it stopped being funny or charming to do after the fifth distcint "we need to hold the greatest talent show in history" joke reference i saw

you're right, it's "have you tried a planner?????"

Yeah, this. The financial models already tried in pre-Web 2.0 don't differ much from today; and the situation right now is kind of similar to the dot com bubble burst when capitalists became really shy about investing into ads and digital spaces.

i posted it earlier but: some of those posts feel a little dashcon-esque in the "we need everybody to put money in the hat being passed around NOW or the hotel will kick us out!!" sense. actually hold on while typing this i remembered the 10 year anniversary of dashcon is this summer and now i feel like this is some kind of cosmic humor/horror of the ghost of dashcon past posessing people

I can't reply because this is a great website where people can leave comments you then can't see but it was in my notifications:

"It's literally not like that. At all. Why would you resort to this type of disability-related analogy? Running in the red as a business owner is not like having a disability."

I'm not comparing cohost's situation to disability I'm comparing the reactions other people have to how people react to disability. The cohost devs are in a hell of their own making, that's nothing like disability, but it's the same attitude in both situations that make people offer unsolicited advice that's the most obvious shit ever that the person they're saying it to clearly would have already thought of. It's this attitude of "well I only just learned about your situation two seconds ago but I'm definitely already prepared to vomit a bunch of advice on it!" It's the exact same attitude in that case. I'm comparing the parties giving advice, not the parties they're giving advice to. So I'm not comparing bad business management to being disabled to begin with. It's the people on the other side I'm comparing.
