be well, lots of love

setting something up on neocities probably

thing ive been doing since about july or so is going to one of my discord servers and saying "crazy how they're going to announce hisui route tomorrow" which is of course referring to the longstanding joke in that server that it was crazy how they were going to announce the tsukihime remake tomorrow. this was back when we had basically no fucking idea if the tsukihime remake was even happening so what makes the hisui route joke funny is that there's a set of routes that haven't been released yet and the one concerning a lady named hisui is one of those, so it's kind of like a moving the goalposts as a consumer style but not in like an indignant marvel funko muh treats way but about as stupid

the thing is you get pretty fuckin bored with writing the same thing day in day out so eventually (about a week in tops) i decided i was going to do some new thing every day just to keep things fun for me and pass the time i mean trying to think of a funny way to say something 150 times cant keep a guy occupied. some days i try a different phrase and then for like a week in august during my vacation in florida i took advantage of the locations i was in to take a bunch of different selfies going like "im in the grid from tron looking for hisui route and i just killed rinzler what do i dooooo" right now my current thing is taking the "breencasts" from half life 2 and rewording it so that it's actually about me as gordon freeman fighting to liberate the concept of "hisui route" from the type moon overmind and the vortigaunts are like guys who know about fate/prototype and aniplex are the advisors here's an excerpt

i find it helpful at times like these to remind myself that our true enemy is Instinct. instinct was our mother—our maid, if you like—when we were but an infant species. instinct coddled us and kept us safe in those hardscrabble years when we used reinforcement magic and cooked our first meals outside winter comiket 2000, and argued over whether shiki could kill servants, and if so, which ones

the cool thing about it is that going back through half life 2's transcript you get to see just how hard valve's writers got to go when it wasn't about coddling the player. breen is like one of marc laidlaw's triumphs of character writing but because we only hear from him as background noise we dont remember too much of it. i wish half life 2 wasn't so good it became the ring finger of the right hand of the demiurge alongside resident evil 4 and halo and ocarina of time and if you wanna be REALLY shitty about it shadow of the colossus but i think its that these games are not inherently evil but rather the people who took notice of the sales and were paid to learn from them are. cause neil druckmann made the last of us.
