the thing about playing street fighter with the anime notation generation is that sometimes they'll ask you something that's intuitive in SF notation like why holding back while crouching and pressing HP still gets you crouching HP but then I'm the one who sounds crazy for saying "1 is a kind of 2"

I feel this way when trying to explain how charge characters work. I think it's just more conversationally intuitive to explain that a charge character who can run is able to charge while holding down-forward because because down-forward is literally down and forward combined, so the down input still counts. A little harder to convey at first when diagonal is just "3"

lately been playing mortal kombat, which is its own kind of headache because, like tekken, its community uses numbers for attack buttons (1 = front punch, 2 = back punch, 3 = front kick, 4 = back kick). at least MK only uses cardinal directions for special inputs, so, say, down forward 2 is basically equivalent to a quarter circle forward
