Furry Black History: Ken Sample
Today I'd like to shine a spotlight on Ken Sample, a Black man and living legend who has been illustrating furries, posting artwork, and creating original species since the 1970's. Considered the first in the fandom to have ever drawn a fursona - Ken Coug'r - the subculture would not be what it is today without his influence. He is one of the founders of the macrophile genre, and helped popularize modern furry art styles by breaking away from the 'human-with-animal-features' stylistics that were present in early fandom.

I don't think I've told this story-- I mean, our mutual friends knew --but yeeears ago, Ken shared with me a videotape compilation of, shall we say, artist's models, with the kind of physiques we found useful to our artistic endeavors. <3 And while I had a VCR, I didn't have a TV of my own, and I mentioned that I'd have to use the house TV after everybody went to bed... and he sent me a fucking television! I couldn't believe it! Just so I could watch this tape in privacy. n.n But that's the kind of guy he is... just incredibly generous and selfless.
