As the Pope Emeritus lay dying he was surrounded by several witnesses. After the final rites were given the pope indicated that he wished to give final parting words to the gathered audience.
"Do not weep, children, for I go now to be with those great men whom I have admired since childhood, in whose paths I have walked, and whose examples I have cherished."
Reportedly this greatly distressed one of the witnesses who replied
"But your holiness, wouldn't you rather be in Heaven?"
