I genuinely believe that "keyboard computers" need to make a comeback as a form factor. The first ones were designed around being able to be plugged into a television so it made sense because you could walk into almost any building in the us and there would probably be a TV or a monitor in there somewhere so there was some display device no matter where you went so why carry a heavy CRT display with you.
Now screens are thin and lightweight enough to just be carried around freely so we don't really think about it anymore but we also have maybe three to five times as many display devices around us at all times so it's no longer a strong probability but it's a virtual guaranteed certainty that you will be able to walk into a random building in the US and find a display screen to plug your keyboard computer into. They maybe make more sense than they ever did.
The only downside is that these days the GUI is supreme over the terminal or command-line interface so you'd need to include some kind of mouse interface with it but trackpads are common enough that you could probably get away with that.
I dunno maybe this is not a product that the average consumer wants but this product doesn't exist yet and already I'm desperately trying to talk myself out of getting one.
actually never mind I just remembered smart TVs are a thing and allow you to pair things like phones and tablets to them over WiFi so let me amend this
Keyboard Computers 1000% make more sense than they ever have before.
Imagine working on something at home, then putting it in sleep, carrying your computer with you in your bag, going somewhere else, walking up to a smart display, wirelessly pair your computer to it, and then suddenly you're able to pick up where you left off without even needing to connect an interface cable. Imagine being able to browse the internet on a TV screen from across the room with no wires, and then just pick it up and take it into your room to listen to music.
I think I have failed to talk myself out of buying a product that does not exist.
