how the hell did I end up being excited about having written like 10 lines of code to make the social media embed thumbnails for my blog slightly better:
- opengraph
og:imageimages are now hard-cropped to 1.91:11— this resolves an issue where Iframely would discard the thumbnail if the aspect ratio was too wide.2 Previously I would just use the page header image verbatim and let the various social platforms crop it for me. - Twitter
summary_large_imagecards have the same crop applied, and also now have the headline hard-burned into the image, because Elon sucks and decided to hide headlines from such embeds. I may still decide to go back to the smallersummarycard type which does still display the headline by default.

It seems to be the commonly used ratio for such things.
-
I didn’t go to the extent of figuring out the actual threshold, nor could I find it documented anywhere.
It’s been a rough couple weeks mentally so I guess it’s just nice to have something where I feel productive and in control
