The girlthings, the boythings, the creatures, the Others. Those that prefer “beings” or “entities” to people. Those that wish for a body that defies the human but remains somewhat alike to it, a form that feels close but out of reach. Those that struggle with defining themselves but know there is something else there. The unknowns, the error message text, the weird and wild and bizarre. The profane and divine, the nightmares and dreamwoven.

Be proud to be you.

“If some has multiple pronouns, and you only use one of their pronouns, you’re misgendering them.”1

Stuck with me even though at the time I was only using she/her. Now I really get it. I am her, but I am it. I am both woman and creature, divine and depraved, Goddess and Demon, the Mother of Monsters being a monster herself.

Bonus points if you use both pronouns in the same sentence, but I know that’s hard.

  1. Obviously there’s nuance with that and make sure you’re referring to someone the way they want to be referred to before any other “universal rule” like that is applied.)

I have a strongly binary identity and use she/her pronouns by choice. Being called "it" feels dehumanizing and objectifying and I have very normal reactions to that (so by all means, please feel free to do so).

If you’re cool (queer), my pronouns are she/they
If you’re a cop (cis-het), my pronouns are she/her, because I refuse to afford you the option of using “they” as a coward’s “he”
If you’re cool, and we’re doing a degradation scene, and consent has been given, then and only then, my pronouns are she/it
