  • Alice blocks you
  • Alice posts a chost
  • Bob, who you follow, posts a reply to Alice's chost
  • Bob's reply is not visible to you in the home feed, nor on Bob's profile
  • If Bob links you his reply via third-party channels, you'll only see his reply; no indication that it's in reply to Alice, or even that it's a reply at all.

Mastodon does similar and maybe there's some safeguarding considerations I've missed but I'd really, really like it if we could instead adopt the twitter/bluesky model of at least telling you "hey there's supposed to be a post here but you're blocked from seeing it" as opposed to pretending it doesn't exist at all.

I should split something into a bunch of 10MB .rar archives, rename them all to .jpg and post it on here, as a lark

@lunasorcery

alternatively, use .zip - and concat the .zip data onto the end of an actual .jpg

.jpg data is read from the start of the file, .zip data is read from the end of the file,1 so you can concat them together and make a polyglot file that's valid as both

Note: it's been a while since i did this and my memory is probably not 100% accurate
