current scope of work is:

  1. make sure every movie I have is ripped
    a) strongly consider ripping disc extras for all fresh rips
  2. audit all files in my movie/TV collection
    a) re-encode everything that hasn't intentionally been left raw
    b) merge all subs into mkv containers
    c) move extras into a separate folder hierarchy
    d) remove residue from past re-encode/sub transfer projects, or finish the work
  3. ensure naming schemes are consistent

stretch goals:

  1. add episode names to all TV episodes
  2. have first- choice text subs for all media (prevents plex re-encoding during stream) (this requires transferring the movies and messing with an OCR tool)
  3. populate film directors and other fun extra info
  4. get plex back up, and ensure it's in a stable state to show stuff to guests without issues
  5. go back and rip special content from other movies/shows.

in reply to @lunemercove's post:

motivations:

  1. reaction to increasing squeezing by media companies on price along with everyone else
  2. being extra prepared to weather the upcoming WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike
  3. fuck disney et al for their "we'll vault things to make them more popular later / we'll cancel things for tax reasons" destruction of media
  4. they're my movies and I want them in a form I crontrol
  5. I wanna raise my standards and, as much as is possible / I have the ability to execute on, I want faithful representations of these disks inside my computer
