like, the hell pit in Brume Tower is good the first time. you drop in, you die. you learn to get the barrel dudes in there and then can clear it out with the explosions. that's fun, sincerely. I love to solve puzzles.
the game then being like "okay now do that again but more efficiently every time you want to explore the next bit of zone" absolutely ruins it. it's not fun the 2nd/3rd/4th time. despawning always an option, but it grates to have to grind enemies out of the level in order to make it tolerable. I don't know why so much of this game is designed for maximum suffering.
I hear a lot of this is scholar's fault specifically. kind of resent the version of the game with some quality of life stuff and newer graphics is also the result of "git gud" players arguing with From or whatever
