byis, among other things, one where I personally know the people who come in to do work in my apartment. instead of just getting told by the front office they're coming with a polite form letter. and they (presumably) get something between polite tolerance and rudeness from a bunch of residents who don't know them and just get their day disrupted around maintenance.
don't need to be their friends, but this could be such a warmer, friendlier interaction. even in the world we've got - my parents know a guy who does various kinds of maintenance work. he lives in their neighborhood. they knew, personally, the people who helped build the extension on their house. one of them pulled me out of our old fish pond when I fell into it as a dumbass kid. even if Capital still has to be involved, I'd rather have that interaction than "my landlords have set me up to be frustrated by some guys I know are just here to do a job".
