A month into the 2020 lockdown we started to see many, many feral cats in our yard - one was noticeably pregnant so we did our usual thing and put out food and safetraps. We never ended up catching the one we meant to, instead - we caught Gargoyle.

this week

When I found her in the trap, she meowed at me. No hiss, no fear, just 'oh fuck please help me I am so hungry'. Her vibes were so chill I didn't even need my safety gloves to get her out of the trap. I let her roam in the bathroom and after climbing into the window to stare outside for a few hours she started cuddling with Della and I. She purred that first night.

Turned out she was pregnant too, but the long hair hid it, and her malnourishment in the wild meant that she only had one baby in there and didn't start showing signs till it was pretty much time to give birth - and as soon as the baby hatched, Smokey (one of the first cats we ever took in) decided Gargoyle was her wife and they moved in together taking turns watching the baby. True lesbian icons.

They've split since, but they're on good terms (Smokey mostly lives upstairs and Garg haunts the front room) - and their son is a fucking MONSTER but more on him when we reach his birthday in June. Here's them together before he got bigger than her and stopped looking like her clone

Anyway, she's a rad cat. She's incredibly tiny because she got pregnant super young and stopped growing; she weighs practically nothing and feels like a small cloud. She purrs when you rub her belly and makes cute little chirping noises when she wants attention. 10/10 cat to have found in the desert, 10/10 cat in general.
