I ask, as I watch a friend play through cartoony action platformer/technical fighting game Little Ralph which is perhaps the third one of these I've seen recently

one of my favourite attempts at something like this is Ninja Golf, a golf game in which between shots you have to walk to the ball manually while under attack by ninjas

The most unhinged attempt I can think of is the PC Engine game Daichi-kun Crisis: Do Natural, which is a proto rts/proto farming sim with beat-em-up bosses. It might be more interesting than it is good, but it's not bad.

What comes to mind for me with games that Ive played is Atomicrops for a single blend which is farmer sim and top down shooter. Evoland 2 kind of just throws a kitchen sink of genres together, and its well established now but Undertale/Deltarune being narrative rpg and bullet hell I feel is pretty up there on the this shouldnt work list.

i feel like a lot of the more unhinged genre mashup examples i can think of are like, often actually really good games that work pretty well so it doesn't feel that unhinged. (the one that usually comes to mind for me is like, classic roguelike + rhythm game but crypt of the necrodancer just. works really well so it doesn't seem that weird.)
