I'm going to pick back up my new dwarf fortress campaign, for at least a few hours, and post about anything fun that happens.
have enough of the very basic stuff (workshops, still and kitchen, plump helmet farms) that I think I'm just going to play idly without looking at the wiki/guides for a bit. I think part of my DF problem historically is not feeling like, comfy with the controls/experience of playing the game. and I think sticking closely to a guide hurts that goal as much as it helps it. I'm told losing is fun, what's the worst that could happen.
I'm trying and failing to understand ramps, because I want to have an actually correctly set up wagon to depot route underground, and I want to be able to seal off a path from that to my base. the easy thing to do would be to restart the campaign and do it right the first time, but I REALLY think I should learn how to do this correctly / fix mistakes like this.
also it's winter and I seem to be out of plump helmet seeds, which may or may not be a problem.
had a severe case of one more turn and got through two winters (despite a food crisis which I later walked back into), and I (IN THEORY) can get everyone inside and raise a drawbridge to lock the place up if a siege happens. even have some arrow slits i can fire through, when I have a military that can do that.
