sparkling water helps a ton when I can get it easily but that's not really feasible generally and especially not at home.

I think I've heard about this before and just never taken the step of actually buying it or looking into it proper. might go see if it seems feasible for me.
it's pretty good, works out a lot cheaper (at least 2x cheaper per liter) than buying bottled sparkling water in the end.
also if you have a car and a local welding gases supplier, you can also do the more DIY punk version of this and rig up a sparkling water dispenser out of an industrial cylinder of food-grade carbon dioxide, a regular degular 2-liter bottle and a gas regulator: https://www.instructables.com/DIY-Carbonator/
