thought of a principle the other day that we've all been unconsciously following: "the devil you don't know"
we all swore off Hobby Lobby, but we keep going to Michaels and Joann - not because we really think those corps are run by decent people, but because they haven't shown themselves to be monsters.
we know they probably are. statistically, it's more likely than not that our money is going into funds to outlaw queerness and not being white - but we haven't seen evidence that Michaels is smuggling religious artifacts to pay for a holy war, so we can plausibly believe we aren't contributing to our own destruction. so for our glitter and mod podge needs, we go with the devil we don't (yet) know.
I lived in very right-leaning areas for most of my life, and the usual argument people would give me for vocally not going to Arby's or Wendy's was "ok but how do you know the other chains aren't doing the same thing" and they were so close to understanding.
When you live in a place where the majority of food options are big corporations (and the local options are generally worse), which is A Lot Of Places for you folks that never lived outside a big city, if you're trying to make anything approaching a good moral choice when you don't feel like cooking, your only real options are the companies that had the good sense to keep their damn mouths shut.
The whole country is Thanksgiving dinner, we're just trying to get something to eat and hoping the people serving it don't suddenly decide to announce some bullshit about the gays or something.
