it's fun how really trivial plot points end up causing me the most work. i decided the protagonists should get their cool spaceship on the ground so now i have to figure out:

just how dangerous is the drive plume? is it actually safe to launch from the ground? can i narratively justify a launch facility that won't melt?
how do they reach orbit without setting off every missile warning system?

i guess since i decided to do a story with a rocket in it i shouldn't be surprised that i have to literally do rocket science

easy: just require them to wait three months to get granted a launch license by the FAA (this is the funny option that's not funny)

wait if spaceships are common it's probably more filing a flight plan
