once again irritated at Discord ignoring Do Not Disturb and playing notification sounds during a meeting, this bug has been there for years, do you think anyone will ever bother to fix it?

I truly apologize for all the hassle and inconvenience! First, can you try restarting your device then reinstall the app following these steps here?: https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022082931--macOS-Install-and-Updating-Errors

Be sure to delete the following folders, otherwise, you may run into issues during the installation process:

  1. ~/Library/Application Support/Discord
  2. /Library/Application Support/Discord

After that, could you try temporarily disabling your firewalls and virus scanners, and any other form of security/antivirus/adblock software, and then try reinstalling the app one more time?

If that doesn't work, would you be able to run a scan of your computer for any viruses, malware, etc using Malwarebytes > clear threats > restart computer > relaunch Discord? You can grab Malwarebytes right here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/

Hopefully one of those solutions works for you! If you're still running into this issue, try our beta, version of the desktop client to see if it helps? https://discordapp.com/api/download/ptb?platform=osx

Finally, if PTB has this issue as well, can you try our alpha client, Discord Canary? The latest version of Canary is available here: https://discordapp.com/api/download/canary?platform=osx

Give all this a shot and let me know how it goes!

followed all of this1 and guess what

it affects every single version and also the version in browser

it's because they've designed a defective notification system that plays the sound from the browser page rather than via the system notification API 🥹

stay tuned as I try to convince them of this and that this fucking sucks

  1. okay I didn't install fucking malware bytes but they don't need to know that

Thanks for reaching out again, I will be taking care of this ticket while my teammate is currently away! Completely understand how annoying that would be! If you go into your User Settings and then the Notification Tab, or to each individual server's notification settings, you can mute all of them! This should help on top of the Do Not Disturb option of your Mac.

Here are a couple links with more info:
https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/215253258-Notifications-Settings-101
https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/209791877-How-do-I-mute-and-disable-notifications-for-specific-channels-
https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/218892547--Mobile-Notifications-Settings-101

Let me know if that works or not, or if you have any other questions!

yeah, sure, just turn all notifications off entirely, that's sure to be what I want

Thanks for getting back to us. This time, can you make sure your Operating System and drivers are completely up to date?

Could you test whether trying to change your DNS provider by following our steps in the following link here helps resolve the issue? https://support.discordapp.com/hc/articles/360034366151

I can't help it, this time I am deploying a little snark:

I have already tested with a different internet connection entirely (and therefore different DNS provider) but I will humour you. I know I am an irritating first level support ticket right now but I promise this is a Discord bug and not a configuration error on my end.

You mentioned that you have a MacOS version 10.15.7 - that version is no longer maintained by Apple. Our technical support will be limited because of that. As that version is no longer receiving updates from Apple, we would encourage you to upgrade to a new version of the OS if possible.

Could you please provide us with a screen recording of the issue, so we can try and reproduce it from our side? Additionally could you please provide us a screenshot from your Discord Notification settings and also your Mac Notification settings for Discord?

in reply to @ticky's post:

I'm just now realizing that I gave up on managed notification systems so long ago that I forgot they existed.

There's no reason why they shouldn't work aside from sloppy shit like, what you described in your post. But it's very frustrating.

in reply to @ticky's post:

"just mute all the servers" lmao

For what it's worth, I do that by default because: holy shit why would I want an audio notification every time someone posts an message in an server? SOMETIMES I may want one specific chat to notify me, usually just pinging me on com notifications or whatever, and it's actually a huge pain in the ass to set that up. Almost as much as a pain in the ass to be told to go mute all of the servers you're in. UGH that's such a fucking lame response.

God discord fucking sucks. "wontfix, busy making new themes"

in reply to @ticky's post:

"Make sure you're using the right DNS provider" HOLY SHIT LOL JUST TAKE THE FUCKING BUG! Who is getting paid to run THIS much interference? Like this is literally just trying to wear down anyone with any ACTUAL fucking bug report into the dust so the people that should be fixing these things do, presumably something else.

God damn this is fucking embarrassing. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.
