...but I'm watching my spouse play Jedi Survivor, and it's all the same? Like, it goes beyond basic movement mechanics, because yah, pretty much all FPSes are WASD+mouse with health and ammo pick-ups, that seems kinda fundamental...
...but games like Jedi Survivor all seem to follow meta designs, like every single AAA game now has that "scoot through a narrow crevice" area load technique, they all have alternate reality challenge modes to gain skill points, they all have platforming/mantling, they all have grappling hooks now, and even the visuals are such that if you were to pluck away the interface and player character, I wouldn't be able to tell you which environments belonged to what game.
And that convergence is weird, y'know? And it's been going on for way longer than I feel like trends usually work their way out in the gaming industry.
