that comes down to the way most websites handle shipping. A lot of the software is deeply integrated; the moment someone clicks "print label" in some shipping facility, and the label is generated and spat out of a thermal printer, that tracking number is logged and the "your order has shipped" email is automatically generated and sent off, even if your order is just going to sit in a pile of boxes waiting to be picked up or dropped off for two more days.
I like it more when those automatically generated emails are more honest, and say something more general, like "A tracking number has been provided."
