This to me is still The Tweet Ever, even if horse ebooks was some weird arg shill thing eventually
Genuinely a lot of fond memories of 2011-2012 twitter.

dril may be Twitter's best poster, but this is the best, truest tweet.
It wasn't an ARG until like 2015 when a performance artist bought the original account and took it over
I thought it was earlier than that so i looked it up, and found a Polygon article written by Griffin McElroy (right, i forgot he wrote actual text articles for polygon at the time..) in September 2013 about it! The account had been run by Jacob Bakkila, creative director for buzzfeed at the time, since some time in 2011. https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2013/9/24/4767700/bear-stearns-bravo-the-fmv-adventure-game-launched-from-internet-memes
And also, even more bizarrely, Susan Orlean (whose book The Orchid Thief was the basis for Adaptation) was involved in a related project involving a phone number you could call to hear spam-like messages read aloud. What a weird time in Internet.
