After threatening a May Day strike, the 300 painters of Painters Local 10 (an IUPAT local representing the Portland, OR area) have won their second historic contract in four years. Their new deal with the Oregon Signatory Painting Contractors Organization (SPCO) has won them an impressive $9.66/hr wage increase over the next three years—and making matters more impressive, comes after previous strike action turned proposed 25 cents/hr wage increases into $3-4/hr wage increases in 2021.
Other headline concessions they won include a new paid holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day); increasing their parking reimbursement from $14 to $16; and getting their subsistence rate1 increased from 2.50% to 2.75% and meal stipend increased.
All told, Painters Local 10 members will have seen their wage increase from $26-$28/hr in 2021 to a range of $37-45/hr in 2026 (when this contract ends). Congratulations!
