you want to receive an NDI stream? take your pick, there are apps for it, both commercial and freeware and open source. you can have plugins for any program you want, you can receive it in OBS, vmix, on your phone, you can get hardware devices, get a thing that makes it show up as a fake webcam input, anything.

you want to send an NDI stream? ah. mm. well uh, sir, i just think this, establishment might not be, exactly your speed, mm, yes sir. you might want to try the mcdonalds next door? the words on their menu should be short enough for you

seriously when i google for "windows program that just fucking takes the video from a webcam and shits it out NDI" i feel like I'm wearing the wrong grade of tuxedo and getting dirty looks. nobody makes this! nobody! google just gives you a fake smile and pretends it did what you asked, while in fact showing you nothing but results for "program to display an NDI feed."

i know this is doable! the SDK offers it for free! both OBS and VLC offer this feature. the problem is, OBS is way too heavy and VLC is way too FOSSbrained. i just. i just want a program meant for this.

and i can have it! on mobile! i can have it on fucking mobile! fuck you! go to hell! video over wifi is what you have to do in hell if you didn't swear off using slurs while you were alive. i won't even discuss this. no professional would ever do this on purpose. it is insulting and it provably doesn't work (i have done it a dozen times on streams and it hitches and eats shit regularly. damn who knew. WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED VIDEO OVER WIFI WAS A BAD IDEA)

please christ in heaven just give me a program for this, give me a fucking .exe like actual adults use when they are doing their jobs. phones are toys. it is forty lines of code that connects one library to another, code other people clearly know how to make, but won't. it's fucking, NDI.startStream(videoforwindows.webcam.create("elgato facecam")) and then you spin until the user clicks exit.

computers never do what you need. there is always someone else who's a More Important Market than you and nobody will ever grease any wheel except the biggest one

yeah that sorta does it, but a) it seems to be impossible to not stream your desktop simultaneously, which is just asking for disaster (camera disconnects, OBS NDI receiver automatically selects the next available NDI input and exposes your screen) b) it has no preview display, so you can't see what you're sending, and c) there's no way to access your camera settings. so it's not really very practical :/

Seconding @cthuflu's recommendation to check out the NDI Tools pack thing, there's probably something there that works, but I don't know how well

it's probably somewhere in ffmpeg

as in ffmpeg probably can do every video thing and can probably run on windows but it's a command line program that i always have to look up how to use and have never even seen used on windows so i will not even verify if this is true

im the kind of person that uses a shell alias that uses some stuff i can't remember so i can view my webcam with mpv so this is the kind of thing i would do if i actually needed it
