I require a steady supply of shooter games not modeled after quake/hexen/other mid-90s shooters, but modeled after mid-2000s shooters. I need my HL2 likes, my singularity-likes, give me Weird Shit that's experimenting with the genre again I beg of you, I need a steady supply of 2000s-shooters or I'll shrivel up.

That said timeshift is pretty cool, looking for more things like that

Honestly surprised there hasn't been? Platforms are a dime a dozen for trying out weird mechanics, itch is full of weird horror games but not many weird shooters.

maybe all the effort went into making half life mods

For better or worse weird experimental FPSes stopped being such a big deal, and right now all of the nostalgia-based shooters are all boomer-shooter styled or similar. I'm really looking forward to when all the dorks my age, the ones whose first formative shooters were Metroid Prime 2 and Half Life 2, get the spotlight for making indie projects

Timeshift is a hidden gem. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus despite being pretty recent has very old-school feel… arguably closer to Quake / Unreal than HL2, but with a bunch of acting-heavy cutscenes and some more modern level designs which IMO tip it towards the latter.

rest assured, after 100%ing The New Order and playing enough of New Colossus to get sick of its default control scheme, I find myself wanting something that leans more in the direction of HL2. TNO was the perfect happy medium for me, and Old Blood only slightly less so. I really wish New Colossus felt just a little more like its predecessor!
