This is a rare call to action for this account. In the 2023 legislative session Colorado Democrats passed the Public Employees' Workplace Protection Act, which overturns the Colorado Labor Peace Act (1943) and thereby legalizes most public unions. More specifically, this bill will allow public employees to:
- Discuss or express their opinions about workplace issues and to discuss their rights as workers;
- Engage in protected, concerted activity for the purpose of mutual aid or protection;
- Fully participate in the political process while off duty and not in uniform, including speaking with members of the public employer’s governing body on any matter of public concern or on the terms and conditions of employment;
- Organize, form, join, or assist a union or refrain from organizing, forming, joining, or assisting a union.
However, Governor Jared Polis has not committed to signing the bill into law, and may be planning to veto it. Therefore, unions in the state are organizing a pressure campaign to the Governor's office. They're asking you to send a letter in support of the bill to show there will be consequences for not signing it. You can do that below the cut via this CWA Local 7799 provided form, or through this link. If you're not from Colorado but know someone there, send it their way too.
