How My Cyberfursona Can Type With Giant Clunky Hoof Fingers: Absurd Lore current version
Microgravity " skeleton crystal" concept
(This is all some bullshit, but I think it's extremely loosely based on reality and believable enough that it works for me I think?)Core world myth: There is a form of naturally occurring crystal which is known to increase and decrease in density to an extreme, seemingly impossible, amount when vibrated.
These crystals occur naturally, and in ancient times were commonly found in wet caves with a high level of calcium, carbon, and the right mixture of salts - that is to say, they grow on bones left in caves.
As such, from ancient times, they were considered magical and occult, even before their physical reaction oddity was understood.
Sought after as an unusual and occult item, ancient people, often those interested in dark magic and connection to the dead, incorporated these skeleton crystals into jewelry, including rings, imagining that they connected them with the soul of ancient cave dwellers and animals.
Gradually, over hundreds of years, it became understood that these stones, when fashioned into a pointed teardrop shape and set into a ring, could lift small objects briefly when the wearer gave their wrist a little flick - initially understood as the assistance of the hand of a spirit summoned by the crystal.
Thus the usage of skeleton crystals transitioned naturally from weird and dark jewelry thought to carry the soul of a dead cave animal - to a tool used by magicians and thieves to perform tricks like grabbing small objects such as cards, coins, keys from a distance.
Gradually, as demand grew, people figured out how to make skeleton crystals without the skeleton, by combining the right materials in wet barrels or vats.
In modern times, people have a great understanding of how to harness the physical reaction of these crystals, but scientists still have no idea why or how the crystals change density so dramatically with such a little energy input required.
To put it another way, they are as commonly known as magnets, but still considered a magic. Some scientists and engineers refuse to use them out of principle, but gradually the benefits of being able to control noticeable gravitational fields is lucrative enough that they are beginning to be incorporated into machinery.
The current state of the art involves a mechanism with six precisely shaped skeleton crystals facing in different directions (one up and one down for XYZ) and mechanisms to strongly vibrate or dampen each crystal independently at different frequencies. The shape of the crystal shapes the gravitational field, and thus makes the effect directional. The intensity of vibration affects the strength of the field - and by mixing all six, the device can manipulate and move small objects with an extremely high level of detailed control, without touching them.
Cybucks hoof hands contain a tiny version of this XYZ microgravity field array mechanism in each hoof finger (so two per hand), as well as a much larger single direction crystal in the tip for heavy lifting, and huge ones in his foot hooves for aid with traction, jumping, and taking long falls.
