I have a terminal case of bovine pungiform encephalopathy, the bovine puns are cowmpulsory

they/them/moo where "moo" stands in for "you" or where it's funny, like "how are moo today, Lupi?" or "dancing with mooself"

I went to get a water bottle

a bird came out

what do I do

this is not a sustainable, viable place for a bird nest.

@lupi

i don't think there's eggs in the nest, i very super gently cut open the shrinkwrap

it's also very recent, like within the past few weeks

so i don't think there was time for eggs to happen

do i try to scare the bird off, do i try and relocate the nest to a nearby eave in the shed, what is the least worst solution to "a bird has built a nest in my stack of water bottles"

@lupi

the bird made its nest in a convenient plastic liner. I used that fact to try and attempt to relocate it.

the end results of "dispose of the nest" and "the bird doesn't return to the slightly relocated nest" are the same, "it will simply build a different nest somewhere else, though it will have wasted effort on this one either way

I want to emphasize that this nest wasn't even waist height, so, have the third picture.

potential benefit to keeping the nest: maybe it'll discourage other nesting attempts if I keep it around taking up space and being very visibly a bird nest.

but then it's also the second attempted nest in my shed lmao who knows. this is what I get for the door not being able to close all the way

in reply to @lupi's post:

I spent a bit of time trying to evaluate it I could do anything that would allow the nest to broadly remain in place, and I hadn't seen this until I made my attempt. pictures incoming in a final post but otherwise concur with your instincts

Yeah I also agree. My understanding is that nests get destroyed/abandoned all the time, because birds are silly and frequently build nests in terrible places. I think they will be mildly inconvenienced but no worse than that.

(Expert advice will of course overrule my vague understanding of these matters.)
