this area is consistently one of the most beautiful, stunning places on Earth in all seasons, and in all lighting, and I still cannot fucking find anything about how it was formed or discovered or anything. There's a 200-foot deep freshwater lake with six-pound trout in it; the entire lake appears to have been formed by a massive volcanic eruption, and it's not even a footnote. I am glad I get to see it, and it proves there is still so much to discover if you're willing to just drive without a direction.
