Well, for 3 days to take Kyiv, it's only day 460... something now? It all sucks to watch and read about. I read posts from friends and artists and good folks who've fortunately managed to make it out, from both Ukraine and Russia, to other regions of the world safely, and often leaving detailed accounts of blackout roadtrips and distant shells falling.

War as a whole sucks. War is an evil thing, but sometimes, it is the lesser of two evils. I don't believe for a second that if Ukraine had capitulated that Russian expansionism would have ended there. It would have just been a matter of time.

Though watching as it has unfolded and seeing the massive differences between western and eastern organizations and logistic methods has been... Rather stark. That a lot of the tactics being used seemingly haven't changed on the Russian side since the 60's or before is boggling in itself. Like watching a new Lamborghini crushed in a compactor made half a century ago. I think seeing a field of farm equipment mis-ID'd as a platoon of Leopard 2's probably takes the cake recently. Even the best spotting equipment money can buy can't fix stupid.

There's a certain fascination that comes with knowing history and seeing a lot of mistakes from the past being played out in real time for those of us who study military history.

But, in short, all of it sucks, and it is exhausting. I absolutely feel that mood.
